About this place

A peaceful mangrove estuary ~19 km south of Kozhikode where river meets sea, known for migratory birds and serene boat rides through the mangroves.

Where River Meets Sea

Kadalundi Bird Sanctuary spans a cluster of islands and mangrove forest at the estuary of the Kadalundi river on the Arabian Sea. It's a tranquil nature retreat that draws a variety of local and migratory birds, especially between winter and spring.

What to Expect

The main draw is a calm boat ride through the brackish waters and lush mangroves, passing under the rail bridge and among the islands. You may spot kingfishers, eagles, herons and, in season, flocks of migratory waders. There's even a floating snack boat in the mangroves.

Good to Know

About 19 km south of the city. Boat rides cost roughly ₹200 per person for about an hour; call ahead, as trips depend on the tide. Bird activity peaks around November–April (best around March).
