About this place

A hidden hilltop viewpoint near Balussery, reached by a short forest trek, offering panoramic views of valleys, hills and reservoirs — best in the misty monsoon.

A Hidden Malabar Hilltop

Vayalada is an offbeat hilltop viewpoint near Balussery, northeast of Kozhikode, that's become a favourite for those seeking panoramic Western Ghats scenery without the crowds. The journey itself — a shaded forest trail opening onto an exposed summit — is part of the appeal.

What to Expect

An easy trek of about 1 km through forest, followed by a few rocky steps, brings you to sweeping views of surrounding valleys, hills and reservoirs. During the rains you'll pass seasonal waterfalls; sunrise, sunset and misty monsoon days are especially beautiful. You can hike up or take a short off-road ride part of the way.

Good to Know

About 35–40 km from the city. Open roughly 6 AM–7 PM with a nominal entry/parking charge. Wear good footwear, carry water, and please don't litter.
