About

Legendary for its flavorful Malabar-style beef biryani, this iconic Kozhikode restaurant has delighted food lovers for generations with its rich taste and authentic culinary tradition.

A Legacy well served

Bombay Restaurant – a name etched into Kozhikode’s food tales for 76 years. The legacy that started in 1949 and has been serving Kozhikode with bold and authentic flavours since then. For Kozhikode, this Malabari multicuisine magic, founded by Kunjahammed Sahib, is not just another biryani spot; it is the hub of nostalgia and the epitome of reliability. We have maintained the authentic flavours, preparation methods, working hours, and aspirations since its inception, making it a trusted food spot in the city

With 7 years of hotel experience in Colombo, our father, Kunjahammed Sahib, finally returned to his hometown with a dream to serve true, unaltered flavours to his people. He stepped into Kozhikode’s food legacy by acquiring a beautiful space near Calicut Beach in 1949. Ever since then, we have been Kozhikode’s favourite spot, never changing in style, management, or opening hours for 76 years.

Between 1965 and 1970, our father expanded his culinary vision by opening three more hotels in Kozhikode: Colombo Hotel, Khyber Prince Hotel, and Casino Hotel, each offering distinct cuisines. While the Khyber Prince restaurant introduced Chinese cuisine to Calicut, the Casino Hotel offered various pure vegetarian dishes to its patrons. He also opened the Colombo Hotel in the city and simultaneously managed four restaurants with the same passion and commitment.

Our father was a culinarian by profession and an artist at heart. His deep passion for art forged connections with legends like M.T., Baburaj, and Kottayam Chellappan, who were occasional visitors to the restaurant. Our signature dishes, the biryani, pidi erachi, porota and chaps gained fans from across India, who would travel to Kozhikode just to savour the
authentic flavours.
